Interesting details
Relativty an open-source VR headset - I’m Maxim Perumal (Maxim xyz) and when my best friend Gabriel Combe and I were 15 years old we built our own VR headset because we couldn’t afford to buy one. It became Relativty, one of the most popular open-source VR headset. Relativty is not a consumer product.
firecracker-microvm/firecracker - Our mission is to enable secure, multi-tenant, minimal-overhead execution of container and function workloads. Read more about the Firecracker Charter here.
Ghostty 👻 - Note: Ghostty is still in private beta. At the time of writing, we have over 1,100 beta testers. All beta testers get access to the source code. Eventually, Ghostty will be public and open source. If you’re interested in being a beta tester, please join the Discord server.
Google’s AI podcast hosts have existential crisis when they find out they’re not real - Google’s NotebookLM certainly took the world by storm when it was released because of its ability to create a realistic AI-generated podcast show out of any article or video you fed into it.
GIMP 3.0 RC1 Released - We are very excited to share the first release candidate for the long-awaited GIMP 3.0! We’ve been hard at work since our last development update to get this ready, and we’re looking forward to everyone finally being able to see the results.
https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/ -
opencoder - OpenCoder is an open and reproducible code LLM family which includes 1.5B and 8B models, supporting both chat and fill-in-the-middle for English and Chinese languages.
VMware makes Workstation and Fusion free for everyone - VMware has announced that its VMware Fusion and VMware Workstation desktop hypervisors are now free to everyone for commercial, educational, and personal use.
MomBoard: E-ink display for a parent with amnesia - Today marks two years since I first set up an e-ink display in my mom’s apartment to help her live on her own with amnesia. The display has worked extremely well during those two years, so I’m sharing the basic set-up in case others find it useful for similar situations.
In Memoriam: Thomas E. Kurtz, 1928–2024 - With deep sadness, we say goodbye to computer pioneer Thomas Kurtz. Thomas Eugene Kurtz (Feb. 22 1928–Nov. 12, 2024) was an American mathematician, computer scientist and co-inventor, with John Kemeny, of the BASIC programming language and Dartmouth Timesharing System.
Are we PEP 740 yet? 🔏 - What is PEP 740? PEP 740 is a Python standard for defining cryptographically verifiable attestations hosted by indices like PyPI. What are attestations? Attestations are digitally signed, publicly verifiable statements about Python packages, including their provenance (e.g.
Safer with Google: New intelligent, real-time protections on Android to keep you safe - User safety is at the heart of everything we do at Google. Our mission to make technology helpful for everyone means building features that protect you while keeping your privacy top of mind. From Gmail’s defenses that stop more than 99.
hengyoush/kyanos - Kyanos is an eBPF-based network issue analysis tool that enables you to capture network requests, such as HTTP, Redis, and MySQL requests. It also helps you analyze abnormal network issues and quickly troubleshooting without the complex steps of packet capturing, downloading, and analysis.
