Interesting details

A wonderful coincidence or an expected connection: why π² ≈ g. - Let’s take a brief trip back to our school years and recall some lessons in mathematics and physics. Do you remember what the number π equals? And what is π squared? That’s a strange question too. Of course, it’s 9.87.

HPKE: Standardizing public-key encryption (finally!) - For the last three years, the Crypto Forum Research Group of the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) has been working on specifying the next generation of (hybrid) public-key encryption (PKE) for Internet protocols and applications.

Dear Ai, make me a video about skateboarding with the boys 🛹 -

Want to boost your mental health? Step outside and look up at the night sky - Under the dancing lights of the aurora borealis, Heather Allansdottir finally felt at peace. It was 2019. She’d left the UK for Iceland in a bid to put behind a tough decade working as a journalist and legal scholar of the Arab revolutions in the 2010s.

nccgroup/ScoutSuite - Scout Suite is an open source multi-cloud security-auditing tool, which enables security posture assessment of cloud environments. Using the APIs exposed by cloud providers, Scout Suite gathers configuration data for manual inspection and highlights risk areas.

NIST Announces Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards - Today, almost all data on the Internet, including bank transactions, medical records, and secure chats, is protected with an encryption scheme called RSA (named after its creators Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman).

art-institute-of-chicago/aic-bash - Just a small side-project we did to show what could be done with our museum’s API. The Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) offers all of its public data via a centralized, searchable API. There, you can find data on artworks, artists, and places represented in our collection, and much more besides.

apache/pulsar - Pulsar is a distributed pub-sub messaging platform with a very flexible messaging model and an intuitive client API. This repository is the main repository of Apache Pulsar.

The Complete Fantastic Adventures of Adam Ant - This doesn’t need much of an introduction, I’ve written about it before but to get up to speed this was a comic strip appearing in issues of DC Thomson’s (TV) Tops comics in 1982. A full colour series featuring the pop star alias of Stuart Goddard, Adam Ant.

mpv.io - mpv is a free (as in freedom) media player for the command line. It supports a wide variety of media file formats, audio and video codecs, and subtitle types. Powerful scripting capabilities can make the player do almost anything. There is a large selection of user scripts on the wiki.

The Xapian Project - Welcome to the Xapian project website. Xapian is an Open Source Search Engine Library, released under the GPL v2+. It’s written in C++, with bindings to allow use from Perl, Python 2, Python 3, PHP 5, PHP 7, Java, Tcl, C#, Ruby, Lua, Erlang, Node.js and R (so far!)
